ROM 8:1-4

the Greek word for “condemnation” carries the idea of both the adverse sentence and the punishment that follows.

There is none of this of any kind for those who are in Christ Jesus - the greatest place in the universe!!

We are in a new position that is entirely beyond the reach of everything to which the judgment of God applied.

- our sins,
Adam’s transgression, and sin in the flesh.

Verses 2 - 4 explain how it can be that there is no condemnation of any kind for all who are in Christ Jesus.

“for” at the beginning of verse 2 and again verse 3 is the Greek particle gar -

The reason is that the law of the Spirit of the life in Christ Jesus

From the law of the sin and the death.

ROM 7:21-25

verse 2 is a new revelation that answers two questions -

1. the reason why we are delivered from the body of this death.

2.the reason why there is no condemnation for us who are in Christ Jesus.

The answer to both is a new “Law”!

The Law of the Spirit of the Life in Christ Jesus

There are at least three laws mentioned in Romans 7 and 8.

1. The Mosaic Law.

2. The law of sin in my members = the law of the sin and the death.

3. The Law of the Spirit of the Life in Christ Jesus.

The Greek noun for law is nomos

Often in the New Testament it refers to the Mosaic Law.

A given principle acting uniformly.

It can also mean a rule of action - a force or influence impelling to action.

It can refer to a type of abstract governing power.

The governing power that prevails uniformly in a given sphere.

The governing power of the Spirit of the Life in Christ Jesus …

set us free [aorist active indicative] from the governing power of the sin and death.

The sphere is IN CHRIST JESUS.

The agent is the Spirit.

The governing power is the Risen Life of Christ.
