What exactly is prayer?
JER 33:3 The Lord said: 'Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.'
Where in the bible are we commanded to pray?
1CH 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
PHI 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
COL 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;
An important part of prayer is to give thanks to God for our many blessings including the ones that may not feel good but bring us closer to him. 1TH 5:16-18
When the Bible talks about hope it is using the Greek word Elpis which means to anticipate with confident expectation.
What are we told to pray for?
God’s will be done
The spread of God’s Word
Our own needs
What if our prayer appears not to be answered?
Are we praying in faith?
Am I lusting after the thing I am praying for?
Holding a grudge, bitterness against someone, or something?
Expecting God to be a Genie and not doing our part to solve the problem?
God’s answers don’t always look like we imagine them
Pray with thanksgiving
For the Church, missions, etc.
Needs of others, esp. believers
Pray for our leaders
To the Father in name of the Son
For our own needs
Always pray that it be His will
Most importantly remember that God loves you and wants you to have life abundantly and talk to Him daily.
